The Campus - duCret School of Art is located on a beautiful 5 acre campus in an 1896 Georgian revival mansion complex adjacent to the picturesque Van Wyck-Brooks Historic District of Plainfield, NJ. The school is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSC); approved by the State of New Jersey Department of Education/ Labor and Workforce Development; and is a member of the Private Career Schools Association of NJ.
Student Artwork - From the very first class in Foundation Year, students are directed toward artist entrepreneurship and must submit artwork into all annual duCret shows and exhibits. The students choose from 3 Majors; Fine Art, Graphic Design or Illustration and are mentored by professional working artists who bring outside jobs into the classroom arena, enabling students to learn how to produce within budget, under deadline and to maintain client relations. Many students have created their own private lines, websites and are executing their marketing plans by graduation time.
Faculty Artwork - The professionals who teach at duCret are well established artisans who bring insight along with an extensive wealth of knowledge to their respective classroom studios. Via a mentorship-style teaching system, many students continue on in study with their teachers beyond graduation and become actual peers who continuously share artist resources or exhibit in group shows. Open Studios are another community resource where students can additionally hone their craft while casually mingling with faculty members who are painting on the art floor alongside of other local professionals. This intimate relational atmosphere helps to offer moral support to those just starting out.
Alumni Artwork - with an 85 year history of art education, duCret has initialized the careers of many Alumni who have gone on to become some of our nation's top artists. Each year duCret hosts a Faculty-Alumni Art Show, enabling students to meet those who have moved on into professional careers, thus establishing additional resources for emerging artists. Many are published authors, gallery owners, and commercial artisians in the print, TV, movie, theatre and video game industries.
